Your USGA Handicap & Hamlet Golf Events

USGA Handicap Information

As a reminder, the USGA handicap system will be active for the Met section this coming Friday, April 1st.  Once it is up and running for the 2016 season all rounds of golf played at the club and elsewhere must be posted.

The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.  Having an active USGA golf handicap is an important aspect of playing golf at a private club and a MUST if you wish to participate in any of our leagues and club tournaments or events at The Hamlet.

As mentioned in the official USGA Handicap System Guide "Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review.  The player and the player's Handicap Committee have joint responsibility for adhering to these premises."

Our Handicap Committee at The Hamlet, led by Robert Mittleman and Dr. Arthur Marchiano, will oversee this process and with your help, we can protect the integrity of this sytem and ensure a fair playing field for all of our members in every event.

For the 2016 season, the following conditions apply to ALL members in order to participate in any league or club event:

*  All members must have a valid and active GHIN handicap registered at The Hamlet
*  All members must post scores from a minimum of 2 rounds of golf played after April 1, 2016 (9 or 18 holes)
*  For those members that are establishing a handicap for the first time, a minimum of 5 scores must be posted in order to participate in any league or event

The annual GHIN handicap fee will be billed to all members starting in April.  If you are new to the club and need your GHIN transferred over to The Hamlet, please let us know as soon as possible so the change can be in effect before any league or tournament play.

Finally, if you wish to participate in one of our golf events at the club and do not have a USGA handicap, please stop by or contact a member of our golf staff.  We are here to help and any changes or additions to our system take only a matter of a few moments.

Please do not hesitate to ensure you are eligible to play in our events.  Our first event of the season, our (Opening Texas Scramble) is Sunday May 1st.

See you at the club...
Vic
