It couldn't happen again, could it? Another Ryder Cup tie?
It all came down to the final group, on the final hole, on the final putt...AGAIN!! For the second year in a row, the 2 day contest could not be settled and once again, as was the case in last year's event, the matches ended in a draw 26 1/2 ~ 26 1/2.
As of the close of play on Saturday, the Blue Team held what seemed to be an insurmountable 4 point lead heading into the Sunday singles of the 2015 Hamlet Ryder Cup event. With 19 points up for grabs, the Red team needed to take the majority of the remaining points to have any chance of turning the tide in the event.
After the first 10 matches of singles play, the Blue team won 4 matches, tied 4 matches and lost only 2 increasing their lead to 6 points with only 9 matches remaining. But the Red team's determination did not waiver and finished strong winning 7 of the final 9 matches, including an all important half in the second to last match coming back from a 2 down deficit with two holes to play.
The comeback was the largest such comeback at The Hamlet since 2012 when the Blue team overcame a 5 point deficit heading into Sunday singles to win the cup by a point. In the past two Ryder Cup events, Red team captain Victor Romano and Blue team captain Jon Kudysch have picked sides that have played 90 matches with an overall score of 45 ~ 45.
Third times the charm, as we look to crown a winner in 2016. A special thanks go out to all of our members whose participation helped make this once again, a very memorable event.
